My artistic beginnings
My artistic journey began in school, where I first picked up a paintbrush and decided to embrace the world of art. Largely self-taught, I've spent over four decades exploring diverse mediums and styles, continuously experimenting to evolve my craft. Beyond traditional painting and drawing, this exploration has led me to try various crafts and even write and illustrate a children's book. This constant curiosity and desire to create is what has kept my passion alive for so many years.

What makes a Jan Tait Design piece truly unique? My original paintings and drawings are deeply inspired by the breathtaking nature of New Zealand, alongside captivating buildings and intriguing structures. I strive to capture the inherent beauty of these elements, infusing them with bold colours that radiate energy and life. Through my art, I hope to evoke a sense of joy and appreciation for the natural world and architectural marvels, inviting you to experience their beauty and dynamism.
My creative flow
My inspiration comes from quietly observing my surroundings—the light on mountains, details in old buildings, and ocean colours. Creating art for me is a fun and exciting process, blending imagination with execution, as I turn those moments into tangible works by choosing mediums and letting colours express themselves. Each piece begins as an idea and develops through layers until it tells its own story. My love of photography also inspires many of my works, travelling throughout New Zealand in a motorhome often finds us in remote and unique locations, and with camera in hand I try and capture the landscape to inspire my next painting.
